The Community Radio Awards 2019 ‘Station of the Year’ is……..ALL FM 96.9

Manchester’s ALL FM won the prestigious ‘Station of the Year’ award in the Community Radio Awards in South Wales on Saturday night. Nominated for the third successive year, ALL FM was competing with; ‘Pride Radio’, ‘Spark FM’, ‘Ujima Radio’ and ‘Wycombe Sound’.

A judge commented on ALL FM that it was ‘possibly the most inclusive, diverse station I have ever heard and is a wonderful example of what Community Radio should be’. Another judge praised ‘the wide range of programming available and the clear passion of the presenters’.

ALL FM’s ethos is ‘by the community, for the community’. It has 115 active volunteers and broadcasts 7 days a week, 16 hours a day. Its shows include six foreign language shows, shows by and for; carers, people on the Autism Spectrum, those with mental health issues, disabilities, people from BAME communities, LGBTQ communities as well as specialist music shows, DriveTime and Breakfast shows.

In addition to broadcasting, it trains a diverse range of people in the Manchester communities. In November it will be commencing radio training projects with those who have long term mental health issues, out of work adults, women and older people at risk of isolation. Chair of ALL FM, Martin Logan who also presents the very popular ‘Out & About in Manchester’ said ‘The Irish are one of many communities in Greater Manchester to benefit from ALL FM’s diverse outlook and innovative approach to training and broadcasting.’

Ed Connole, Director of ALL FM said ‘There are so many amazing community radio stations in Greater Manchester and the UK. So we’re very proud to have won ‘Station of the Year. This award represents the hard work, dedication and talent of our volunteers and staff who have been going above and beyond for over nineteen years. It’s a great achievement.’

In addition to the ‘Station of the Year’, ALL FM also won the ‘Community Development Project’ of the year for its partnership with Chapel St Primary School on the Radio Takeover Day in December 2018. On December 14th from 9am until 7pm Chapel Street’s children presented and produced every show live on air covering a diverse range of issues and topics. Martin Steers, Chair of The Community Radio Awards commented ‘“Radio continues to play a strong community role, and it’s a privilege to showcase it. The recognition for ALL FM is well deserved, and we hope it showcases their success, and encourages others to engage, represent and support their communities.”

ALL FM acknowledge and thank Manchester City Council, Our Manchester and the Tudor Trust for its support. Without whom winning ‘Station of the Year’ would not be possible. We also thank OneManchester and Children in Need for their support on the Chapel Street Primary School Radio Takeover Day.

Community Radio Awards 2019: Gold for Community Development Project

ALL FM & Chapel St Primary Primary School were triumphant in the Community Radio Awards winning Gold in the Community Development Project Award for their ‘Radio Takeover Day’ in Dec 14th, when children from Chapel St presented and produced every show live from 9am till 7pm

One judge commented; “Great to see Community Radio’s resources being used in this way. Good to see stations working with Primary-age children – often projects like this focus on teenagers.”
